LIVE VEDIC CHANTING COURSE
Agni Sūktam:
Developing
Will Power
SEPTEMBER 14 - NOVEMBER 16, 2026
PREREQUISITE: Foundations of Vedic Chant Course with Ivy
What is the Agni Sūktam?
A sūktam is a collection of verses or Veda mantra-s traditionally chanted in a specific sequence and dedicated to a common theme or deity. The word sūktam literally means "well-spoken" or worthy of chanting.
Agni is translated as Fire, and in the context of the Veda, it carries both practical and symbolic meanings.
In a pragmatic sense, Agni is the force that transforms substances from one form to another. It is the power of digestion that changes food into energy and bodily tissues. It also "digests" our lived experiences, transforming events into knowledge, emotions, and wisdom.
When we take action in our lives, Agni is the sustained focus and determination that powers our agency - our personal will power. It manifests our convictions and desires into material action on the physical plane.
To be effective, our personal will or Agni must be sustained, just like a ritual flame transforming an offering. Our will power must be cultivated and protected from dissipation or distraction. Through recitation of these mantra-s, we develop the power of Agni in our own being.

HOW THE COURSE WORKS
Structure of Class
Each class will include teaching on the pronunciation, phonetics, rhythm and meaning of one verse. We will engage the traditional method of adhyayanam (“listen and repeat”) to learn a new mantra and to practice what we have already learned.
Volunteering In Class
After being introduced to the verse and practicing as a group, students can volunteer to practice a short segment aloud and receive individual feedback. By listening to each other, you will refine your hearing and ability to duplicate the desired sounds.
Personal Practice & Individual Feedback
Between classes, you are invited to practice and then submit an audio recording for private feedback from Ivy. An optional homework assignment will be given each week. Practicing on your own between classes is a necessary step to learn and refine each verse.
Your Course Includes
- 10 live classes, 60 minutes each
- Videos of each class in case you miss one live
- Individual recorded feedback from Ivy on 9 optional homework recordings to encourage your progress
- Text and audio recordings of each mantra broken into segments for easy home practice
